Charles Simpson, a local artist who exhibited at Towneley between 1903 and 1914, is represented in the watercolour collection with Higher Hodder Bridge waco218.
According to an obituary in the Burnley News (Wednesday October 10th 1928, page 8), his early training was received locally from Mr. W. Cawthorne, after which he enrolled as student of the Herkomer Art School, at Bushey. He had one oil painting exhibited at a Royal Academy Exhibition. He was best known for his local topographical drawings, of which there are six in the documents and manuscripts collection.
